Our Porsche 911 Type 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet Turbo Look was first registered on July 8, 1992 and currently shows 129,500 km. Of French origin and delivered new by Porsche Saint-Maur, it remains registered in France and was acquired by its current owner in 2022.
This example is presented in the elegant F8 Midnight Blue Metallic finish, paired with a Navy Blue V8 full extended leather interior. This rare “triple blue” specification gives this 964 a particularly refined and desirable presence. Both the bodywork and the cabin are in very good condition.
Powered by the 3.6-litre flat-six producing 250 hp and paired with a manual gearbox, this Carrera 2 stands out thanks to its factory Turbo Look configuration (TLU). It therefore benefits from the wide bodywork, suspension and stance of the 911 Turbo while retaining the mechanical purity of the naturally aspirated Carrera.
Maintenance has been carried out with great care, initially within the Porsche network and later by recognized specialists, notably GT Sport in Limas (69). The vehicle retains its service book from delivery through 2000, complemented by a substantial file of invoices since then.
Service history:
Consumables are in very good condition. The four Pirelli P-Zero tires were replaced in 2021 and show less than 20% wear. The brake discs are in good condition and both front and rear brake pads also show less than 20% wear.
The car is fitted with a RUF rear silencer. In 2023, major maintenance was carried out including engine sealing work, a recent convertible top mechanism, inspection and refurbishment of the front and rear suspension (front stops and boots), as well as the repair of the rear spoiler control unit. No expenses are to be expected.
Options and equipment on this example include:
This Porsche is delivered with its certificate of administrative status, service book, an extensive file of invoices, its technical inspection report, CarVertical report, a photo album and its two keys.
A particularly desirable 964 Cabriolet in this factory Turbo Look specification, combining elegant presentation, clear history and serious mechanical maintenance.
Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 3.6 – the bridge from classic to modern
Launched for model year 1989, the 964 generation arrived as the most comprehensive re-engineering of the 911 since 1963. The Carrera—in both rear-drive Carrera 2 and all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 forms—kept the air‑cooled, rear‑engined soul but introduced the tech that would carry the 911 into the 1990s: coil‑spring suspension in place of torsion bars, standard ABS, power steering for the first time, and much-improved aerodynamics with flush bumpers and an automatic rear spoiler. Under the decklid sat the new 3.6‑litre M64 flat‑six, rated at 250 PS (247 bhp) and 310 Nm, a muscular step over the outgoing 3.2.
Porsche launched the C4 first (late 1988), showcasing a road‑tuned take on lessons from the 959 with an electronically managed, hydraulically actuated multi‑plate clutch to vary torque to the front axle. A year later came the purist‑pleasing C2. Most cars used a 5‑speed manual (G50‑based in C2, G64 in C4), while 1990 introduced Tiptronic, a 4‑speed automatic that broadened the 911’s appeal.
Period critics admired the Carrera’s new civility—better HVAC, less interior noise, real stability in the wet—yet some purists winced at the weight and price jump versus the G‑series. On a back road, though, the 964 still felt unmistakably 911: alive at the nose, traction‑rich at the tail, and now quicker everywhere. Against contemporaries like Ferrari’s 348, Honda’s NSX, Nissan’s 300ZX Twin Turbo and Chevy’s ZR‑1, the 964 held its own by blending old‑school character with modern competence.
The 964 era spawned icons that amplified the Carrera’s halo: the 964 Carrera Cup one‑make racer and the feathery 964 RS distilled the chassis’ potential; Turbos (3.3 and later 3.6) took the headlines. The platform became a favourite canvas for re‑imagined 911s—most famously Singer—thanks to its blend of classic looks and modern underpinnings.
Running changes improved early teething issues. Mid‑1991 engines gained additional head sealing to curb oil leaks; a distributor vent kit addressed ozone‑related belt failures on the twin‑plug ignition; and the dual‑mass flywheel was updated for durability. Later cars often wore 17‑inch Cup wheels and benefitted from refined electronics and standardised airbags in many markets. Enthusiasts sometimes dub early (’89–’91) cars 964.1 and later updates 964.2; your specified 250‑hp Carrera sits squarely in this narrative.
Fun footnotes? The 964 generation starred on screen—most famously a 964 Turbo 3.6 in Bad Boys—and has been celebrated in countless modern reviews and Top Gear/Fifth Gear segments for bringing the 911 into the modern age without losing its identity. Notable owners within the broader 964 family include high‑profile Porsche aficionados like Jerry Seinfeld. Today, the 964 Carrera is cherished as the hinge point between vintage feel and everyday usable performance—still air‑cooled, still charismatic, yet genuinely contemporary to drive.
