Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II - 1960

Our Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II, put into circulation on January 1, 1960, was delivered new in France by Franco-Britannic. It now has 3,500 KM on the 5-digit clock, with a long family history — the vehicle having remained in the same family for more than 45 years.

This copy is presented in a creamy white color, with an interior combining beige leather at the front and felt at the back. The burl walnut woodwork is in good condition, as is the exterior chrome. There are some cracks on the paint and slight localized yellowing spots. The interior, true to the Rolls spirit, is well preserved. All the instrumentation is functional, and some additional checks will be carried out before the sale.

Under the hood, this Silver Cloud II is powered by a 188-horsepower 6.2L V8 combined with an automatic gearbox. The mechanics are in good general condition, with healthy and regular functioning. An ignition check will be carried out for sale.

Maintenance was entrusted to specialists in classic vehicles such as Les Ptites Vieilles, Mann Egerton and the Franco-Britannic. A vast file of invoices is available, including major works carried out in the 1990s.

The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II was presented in 1959, succeeding the Silver Cloud I while maintaining its exterior appearance. It is based on a similar architecture: separate chassis, steel body with aluminum elements, and dimensions almost unchanged. The main evolution concerns the engine: a 6.2-liter V8 designed by Rolls-Royce, replacing the six-cylinder in-line engine.

This new block significantly increases performance. The weight increased to over 2.1 tons, but the top speed reached 183 km/h. Acceleration is also improved, although some journalists at the time noted a loss of smoothness compared to the previous model. The larger V8 even requires removing a wheel to access the spark plugs. Lubrication problems were also reported on the first copies.

Power steering is becoming standard, and electric windows are offered as an option. Minor changes appeared over the course of production, such as blue instrument lighting or a rear light redesigned in 1962. Produced until 1962 in a total of 2,417 units, the Silver Cloud II remains a transitional model, maintaining a classic structure while introducing more modern technical solutions.
