Our Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, first registered on June 10, 2011, has covered just 23,000 km. Originally delivered in Germany, it is currently registered in Monaco and has had three owners.
This example is finished in the legendary Silver Arrow Grey paintwork, paired with a black leather interior. This is the model’s original launch specification, one of the most emblematic and sought-after configurations. The bodywork is in outstanding overall condition, with no defects reported. Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (2010–2014) emerged as AMG’s first clean-sheet car, a modern homage to the 300 SL “Gullwing.” Its long bonnet, rear-set cabin and upward-swinging doors wrapped a hand-built, naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 and an aluminium spaceframe. It bridged the gap from the SLR McLaren to the later AMG GT, but with a more purist, front‑mid‑engine layout and a soundtrack that became its calling card.
Launched first as a Coupé (2010) and later as a Roadster (2011/12) without gullwings, the SLS used the M159 V8 (571 PS/563 hp, 650 Nm) mated to a rear-mounted 7‑speed dual‑clutch transaxle. It was developed largely in Affalterbach with input from Mercedes-Benz’s skunkworks and tested extensively at the Nürburgring. Early media loved its theatre and straight-line punch—0–100 km/h in 3.8 s—while noting a firm ride and a chassis tuned more for high-speed GT work than the knife-edge precision of a Ferrari 458.
Key upgrades punctuated its lifecycle. In 2012 the SLS AMG GT lifted output to 591 PS (583 hp), sharpened gearbox mapping, stiffened the AMG RIDE CONTROL setup and added darker trim highlights. Track addicts got their halo in 2013 with the SLS AMG Black Series (631 PS/622 hp), wider tracks, extensive weight saving, aero addenda and quicker responses—arguably the ultimate naturally aspirated AMG road car. In parallel, the limited-run Electric Drive swapped pistons for four motors (552 kW/751 hp, 1000 Nm), briefly nabbing the production-EV lap record at the Nürburgring in 2013. The curtain call was the GT Final Edition (2014), limited in number with 591 PS and a carbon bonnet/unique aero.
Beyond the road, the SLS AMG GT3 customer racer became a serial winner—Victories included the 2013 Nürburgring 24 Hours and Bathurst 12 Hour—cementing AMG’s credibility in global GT racing. On Sundays, an SLS served as the official Formula 1 Safety Car for much of the early 2010s, its burbling V8 familiar behind Bernd Mayländer’s steering wheel.
Pop culture helped make it an icon: the SLS appeared as Soundwave in Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011), starred across major video games (Gran Turismo, Forza, Need for Speed), and fronted memorable ads—like former F1 driver David Coulthard catching a golf ball inside an SLS at speed. Contemporary critics summed it up well: not the absolute sharpest scalpel, but a sensational GT with old-school charisma, outrageous noise and everyday manners that broadened AMG’s halo. As a statement piece, it reintroduced the gullwing silhouette to a new generation and set the tone for AMG as a bona fide constructor, paving the way for the AMG GT line that followed.
