This Porsche 911 2.2 S from 1970 carries chassis number 9111300321, paired with engine number 6310514. Delivered new on October 21, 1970 by Porsche distributor Raffay in Hamburg, it has since passed through several German cities – Stuttgart, Ludwigsburg, Traunstein – before moving to Sweden. The vehicle is now available.
This example is presented in its original factory Grünmetallic (code 8383), a particularly rare colour for this model. The interior has been fully restored in black leatherette with Pepita fabric upholstery, a period-correct signature. The bodywork has been restored to bare metal, strictly respecting its original specification.
Under the rear decklid, the 2,195 cc mechanical fuel-injected flat-six develops 180 hp, paired with a 5-speed manual “dog-leg” gearbox. The engine was fully rebuilt during restoration to ensure reliability and driving pleasure. Original forged Fuchs wheels are present, contributing to the car’s lightness and dynamic character.
All maintenance history is documented in the service book. The car comes with its original jack, toolkit, and owner’s manual. It benefits from the Porsche Classic Certificate, confirming the authenticity of its components.

This Porsche 911 2.2 S comes with its service book, original documents, and Porsche Classic Certificate.
Porsche 911 2.2 S (Type 901/911), MY1970–1971 — the high-revving halo of the long‑nose era. Although the early 911 family is often nicknamed “901”, the 2.2‑litre S sits specifically in model years 1970–1971, right between the 2.0 cars and the later 2.4 range. It arrived as a focused upgrade: a bigger‑bore flat‑six with Bosch mechanical fuel injection, racier camshafts and a freer‑breathing top end that pushed the tach to a 7,300 rpm red sector.
The “2.2” didn’t come from a longer stroke (that would follow on the 2.4) but from enlarging bore to 84 mm while keeping the 66 mm stroke. The S combined this with a high 9.8:1 compression ratio, a light magnesium crankcase and sodium‑filled exhaust valves. Power was quoted at 180 PS (DIN) — period literature often rounded it to 180 hp — making it the sharpest road 911 of its day. Porsche paired it with a dog‑leg 5‑speed and optional ZF limited‑slip, while chassis tuning brought thicker anti‑roll bars, Koni dampers and ventilated discs with alloy calipers. Forged Fuchs 6x15s and 185/70 VR15 tyres completed the stance.
On paper the figures were compelling — 0–100 km/h around seven seconds and roughly 230 km/h flat out — but the magic was in the delivery: an eager, elastic mid‑range that hardened into a spine‑tingling rush past 5,500 rpm. Contemporary testers loved the precision and brakes, noted the price and the 911’s familiar tail‑happy edge if clumsy hands overruled smooth inputs. For skilled drivers it was alive in a way few rivals could match.
Competition mattered. The 2.2 S served as the showroom sibling to the 911 ST racers that collected GT class wins across Europe in rallies and endurance events, underscoring Porsche’s “race on Sunday, sell on Monday” mantra. In popular culture its most famous cameo is arguably the Slate Grey 1970 911 S driven by Steve McQueen in the opening of the film Le Mans — McQueen’s own car, later sold for seven‑figure sums and cementing the 2.2 S as a blue‑chip collectible.
Built in relatively small numbers as coupé and Targa, the 2.2 S honed the 911 recipe: lightness, revs, feedback and everyday usability. It also set the stage for the even punchier 2.4 S of 1972–1973. Yet many purists still swear by the 2.2 S’s glassy throttle response and flyweight feel — the moment when Porsche’s maturing 911 found its voice without losing its early delicacy.
