Our Maserati GranSport, launched on February 22, 2005, has only 45,600 km on the clock. Sold new in a French dealership, it was initially registered in Luxembourg before returning to France in 2009. Its current owner purchased it in 2016.
This model comes in a metallic Grigio Touring color combined with a black leather interior. The body is in good condition and the interior is neat. However, it should be noted that the headliner has some faults.
Under the hood, this GranSport is powered by a 4.2L naturally aspirated V8 developing 400 horsepower, coupled to an automatic transmission. The beautiful sound of this engine is enhanced by a modified X-pipe. The mechanical components work perfectly. The maintenance was carried out in a dealership or by specialists, with a complete history (invoices and maintenance book available). A major revision was just carried out in 2024, including the replacement of the tires. The consumables are in good condition.
Here are the options and equipment available to this copy:
The Maserati GranSport (2005–2007) arrived as the sharpened evolution of the M138 4200 Coupé and Spyder, created to put extra heat on rivals just as the all-new GranTurismo was still a couple of years away. Born under Ferrari-era stewardship, it distilled the 4200’s charismatic F136 4.2‑litre V8 into a more focused, more emotive driver’s car—one that many period testers called the best-driving Maserati of its time.
Maserati’s recipe was simple but effective: more power, faster shifts, stiffer and lower suspension, and meaningful aero tweaks. It launched at the end of 2004 for the 2005 model year with a 400 PS V8 and the Cambiocorsa rear‑transaxle gearbox running quicker software. The stance dropped by around 10 mm, with revised springs, dampers and anti‑roll bars for keener turn‑in. The new front bumper with integrated splitter, side skirts and a subtle rear lip didn’t just look better—they improved stability at speed. Inside, deeply bolstered seats, a thicker rim steering wheel and generous carbon-fibre trim set the tone.
Competition in-period was fierce: Porsche’s 997 Carrera S redefined precision, Aston Martin’s new V8 Vantage oozed class, and Jaguar’s XKR charmed with grand-touring ease. The Maserati answered with theatre. Period reviews by evo, CAR and Autocar lauded its steering feel and that spine-tingling V8 soundtrack—especially with the exhaust valves open in Sport—while noting the Cambiocorsa’s low‑speed jerkiness and clutch wear as ongoing caveats.
Special editions kept interest high. The 2006 GranSport MC Victory—built to celebrate the MC12’s FIA GT titles—brought carbon-fibre exterior addenda, blue carbon trim inside, and even more purposeful seats. A GranSport Spyder joined the range too, letting you hear more of the V8’s hollow bark. By the time production ended in 2007, the GranSport had cemented Maserati’s modern sporting credibility and set the emotional template the GranTurismo would scale up.
Fun bits for enthusiasts: the GranSport’s Cambiocorsa software delivered significantly quicker shifts than the regular 4200, and its freer-breathing intake and exhaust gave it a raspier, harder-edged note at high rpm. It also became a digital-era poster car, featuring in popular titles like Test Drive Unlimited, spreading Modenese charm to a new generation. On TV, Top Gear praised its feel-good factor and operatic character—proof that, even when rivals were clinically faster, few coupes felt this special on a Sunday blast.
