Our Porsche 911 Type 996 40 Jahre, produced in only 1963 copies, was delivered new in Germany on September 10, 2004. It now has 96,800 km and joined France in 2008, when it changed ownership.
This model is presented in its specific GT Silver metallic color, combined with a black natural leather interior (code X99). The body is in perfect condition, with only a few faults being a few chippings on the front fascia. The cabin is in perfect condition, with no faults to report, and all the on-board instrumentation is working normally.
Powered by the naturally aspirated 3.6L Flat-6 developing 345 horsepower, this 996 40 Jahre is equipped with a manual gearbox. The mechanics work perfectly, the last revision having been carried out in May 2025. The IMS was replaced in 2017, guaranteeing the reliability of the car.
The maintenance was carried out in the Porsche network until 2020, then followed by the specialist Sporting Garage. The original maintenance book is present, along with the invoices, especially since the intervention on the IMS.

Porsche 911 (996.2) “40 Jahre 911” – model history
When Porsche refreshed the 996 in 2002, the second phase (996.2) brought cleaner headlights, a larger 3.6‑litre flat‑six and a raft of detail upgrades. To celebrate 40 years since the 911’s 1963 IAA debut, Stuttgart launched a limited “40 Jahre 911” edition for the 2004 model year. Built in just 1,963 units worldwide, it distilled the best of the Carrera with purposeful hardware and subtle styling cues rather than ostentatious add‑ons.
At its heart sat the M96/03 3.6 fitted with the factory X51 Powerkit, lifting output to 345 hp. The kit wasn’t just mapping: it added reworked cylinder heads and intake, revised exhaust manifolds, extra cooling via a centre radiator, and an improved oiling system with a baffled sump—track‑use friendly engineering that enthusiasts still prize. Porsche matched the punch with the M030 sports suspension and the 18‑inch polished Carrera wheels, while stability control (PSM) was standard. A Turbo‑style front apron provided the additional airflow the X51 required, giving the car a subtly more focused stance.
Exclusivity came cloaked in GT Silver Metallic—then a near‑bespoke colour shared with the Carrera GT—over a Natural Grey full‑leather cabin. Details mattered: body‑colour centre console, polished tailpipes, special sill plates scripted “911 40 Jahre,” and a numbered plaque. Most cars were six‑speed manuals (Tiptronic S was optional), rear‑wheel drive only, keeping the classic 911 feel intact.
Contextually, the 40 Jahre landed in a hotly contested arena: BMW’s E46 M3, Mercedes’ CLK55 AMG and Jaguar’s XKR all circled the same buyers. The Porsche’s pitch was different—less about spec‑sheet fireworks, more about a cohesive, analog driving experience sharpened by genuine factory performance parts. Period testers praised its tractability and the extra verve above 5,000 rpm, calling it one of the sweetest road‑going 996s. Some balked at the price premium, but even then noted the X51 content would cost far more a la carte.
Curiosities? The build total of 1,963 nodded to the 911’s birth year; GT Silver telegraphed a link to the halo Carrera GT; and the front apron wasn’t cosmetic—it fed that extra radiator. On screen the 40 Jahre stayed mostly niche, but among aficionados it became a connoisseur’s choice: a sleeper that paired daily‑driver civility with track‑day stamina. With hindsight, it also helped burnish the late‑996’s reputation and quietly previewed the restrained, technical aesthetic Porsche would lean into with the incoming 997. Today, its limited run, factory X51 hardware and tasteful spec make it one of the most collectible water‑cooled Carreras.
