Our Porsche 911 Type 997 Carrera S, first registered on November 22, 2007, has covered 59,852 km.
Originally delivered in France, it is currently registered in France. Purchased as a used vehicle from Porsche Centre Orléans in March 2011 with 13,666 km, it has remained with its second owner ever since.
This example is finished in elegant Basalt Black, paired with a black leather interior. The bodywork is in very good overall condition, showing only a few minor scratches consistent with normal use, which could easily be corrected with a professional polish. The interior is in excellent condition and all onboard instrumentation functions perfectly.
Under the bonnet, the naturally aspirated 3.8-litre flat-six produces 355 hp and is paired with an automatic gearbox. This Carrera S benefits from a particularly reassuring mechanical history, with its engine having been replaced by the Porsche dealer network in 2024 and covered by a Porsche warranty until the end of 2026. Used exclusively for weekend drives, it has never been driven on track.
Recent maintenance includes:
Consumables are in good overall condition. The tyres show approximately 30% wear remaining (around 70% tread remaining), and the brakes are in good condition.
The following upgrades have been made:
No repairs or replacements are to be reported other than the engine replacement carried out by Porsche in 2024.
No expenses are to be expected.
This example is equipped with the following features and options:
This Porsche is supplied with its certificate of administrative status, service book, invoices, CarVertical report, workshop manual and two keys.
When Porsche launched the 997 generation in 2004, the 911 Carrera S (997.1) landed right in the sweet spot of performance and usability. It brought back the classic round headlamps after the 996’s controversial “fried-egg” look and, more importantly, introduced a stronger 3.8-litre naturally aspirated flat-six with 355 hp. The S was conceived as the driver’s 911: faster and more focused than the base Carrera, yet still civilised enough for daily miles.
Under the skin, the S arrived with PASM adaptive damping as standard, 19-inch wheels, a wider rubber footprint, and bigger 330 mm drilled/vented brakes. Porsche also made an old-school limited-slip differential available again, and the options list became an enthusiast playground: Sport Chrono for keener responses, Porsche Sports Exhaust for a harder-edged soundtrack, and the coveted X51 Powerkit that lifted output to around 381 hp with revised intake, manifolds and oiling. Carbon-ceramic PCCB discs could be ordered, too—exotic tech on a non-GT 911 at the time.
Context matters. The 997.1 S met a new wave of rivals: Aston Martin V8 Vantage (2005) with its charisma, the lighter-on-its-feet BMW M3 (E46 and then E92), the rebooted Jaguar XK/XKR, and, late in the run, Audi’s mid-engined R8. Group tests in Evo, Autocar and Car and Driver frequently praised the Porsche’s hydraulic steering feel, iron-fist body control and uncanny ability to moonlight as a commuter. If there was a rap, it was that the options could make accountants wince, and the 5-speed Tiptronic S auto felt behind the curve as dual-clutch units began to arrive elsewhere.
The S also punched above its weight in pop culture. It featured in video games like Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) and early Forza Motorsport titles, and it became a staple of TV comparison tests—Top Gear famously calling the 997 an everyday supercar. Fun fact: the 997 Carrera S was the first mainstream 911 to wear 19-inch wheels as standard, and you could even option a 90-litre long-range fuel tank for grand touring range.
By 2008 the direct-injection, PDK-equipped 997.2 was queued up, but the outgoing 997.1 Carrera S had already done the brand a huge favour. It restored design confidence after the 996, reasserted the 911 as the benchmark driver’s car in its class, and laid down a template—tactile controls, analogue feedback, and authentic flat-six character—that enthusiasts still chase today.
