Winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans was Porsche's objective when the decision was made to launch the 917 study for the 1969 season. The new regulations stipulate that 25 cars must have been built in order to obtain approval in the top category, known as “Sport”. The teams have only 10 months to complete the project and present 25 working Porsche 917s to the CSI inspectors! Legend has it that all the company's staff will be involved in the final assembly, designers, accountants and... secretaries!
