Our Ford Mustang Fastback, put on the road on January 1, 1965, today totals 59,600 miles (about 95,000 km). Imported to Canada and then repatriated to France in 2021, it changed owners in December 2021 and is currently registered in France.

This copy comes in the exterior color Rangoon Red (code J) combined with a red leatherette interior (code 85A). The body has been completely polished and is in good general condition despite some slight, inconspicuous defects. The cabin is in very good condition and the on-board instrumentation works perfectly.

Powered by a 200-horsepower V8 and combined with an automatic gearbox, this Mustang Fastback offers the driving characteristics of sixties muscle cars. The mechanics are in good general condition: the gearbox works very well, the rear axle is in good condition, and the exhaust line has no apparent leaks.

The consumables are in very good condition, with all four tires replaced in 2022.

Several major repairs and replacements have been carried out: overhauling the running gear, reconditioning and draining the gearbox, installing a reconditioned engine, restoring the body and the passenger compartment, and rear upholstery redone in 2022.

The 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback occupies a special place in the first year of the model's life. This version maintains the founding principle imagined by Ford: a compact coupe, simple to produce, but capable of being configured according to the desires of buyers. In this Fastback configuration, combined with an automatic transmission and the 200-horsepower V8, the car illustrates a greater touring approach than versions intended for pure performance.

The Rangoon Red color belongs to the colors used since the early days of the Mustang and evokes these configurations that were very visible in period brochures. The Fastback line provides another interpretation of the design launched in 1964 and a half: a receding rear, a tighter airframe and a more dynamic silhouette, designed as much for aerodynamics as to differentiate the model from the classic coupe versions.

The small block V8, with its single-barrel carburetor, offers a smooth response and torque available early on. The automatic transmission adds a more leisure-oriented driving rhythm and recalls that many Mustangs were ordered this way, not for the track, but for more serene daily use.
