Our Peugeot 404 Coupé Super Luxe was put into circulation on December 20, 1967 in France. With only 18,000 km on the clock, this Peugeot 404 was completely restored between 2016 and 2017, both on the body and on the mechanics.
It comes in an Electric Blue color, combined with a black faux leather interior, preserved in perfect condition. Its condition is exemplary at all levels.
Under the hood, this Peugeot 404 is equipped with a 80-horsepower 1.6L engine, coupled to a manual gearbox. Its mechanics are in perfect condition, with rigorous maintenance carried out in specialized garages such as Peugeot, Auto Légende Manufacture and Garage ADMA. A large file of invoices is available, attesting to its meticulous follow-up. Its last revision was carried out on February 21, 2021 and the consumables are in very good condition. No costs are to be expected.
The Peugeot 404, produced from 1960 to 1975, was born out of a desire to modernise the range after the release of the Citroën DS. Developed under the name Project 103 in 1955, it was designed in collaboration with Pininfarina, which gave it a silhouette inspired by American trends.
Launched in May 1960, it is based on a propulsion inherited from the 403 and a 1.6-liter engine developing 65 hp. In 1962, it became the first French hatchback equipped with an injection engine, bringing the power to 80 hp. The range was expanded with station wagon, coupe and convertible versions.
Robust and appreciated for its versatility, it is also produced in various utility forms. Its diesel engine, introduced in 1963, made it popular with professionals and ensured a long career. In France, it disappeared in 1975, but its production continued abroad until 1988, especially in Kenya.
In addition to its commercial success, the 404 distinguished itself in competition, winning several rallies, including the East African Safari. This model marked a turning point for Peugeot, which established its reputation for reliability and initiated a stylistic evolution that would influence future generations.
