Toyota's sports department, Gazoo Racing, has never been more active. Between the Yaris GR, Corolla GR and Supra GR still on sale, the presence in the WEC in the Hypercar category or in the WRC, the Japanese brand is everywhere. Or almost. From 2027, however, the GR logo will check a few additional boxes. Toyota is in fact unveiling a completely new supercar, available in both road and GT3 versions: here is the GR GT.

GR Supra - GR Yaris - GR86

The announcement came as a surprise, and we can see why. Despite a showcar unveiled in 2022, nothing guaranteed production. Toyota had never presented a real supercar until now, and in a complicated context for internal combustion engines, the brand dared... a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. A hybridization is present, but we will come back to it.

Toyota GR GT - A length to make an AMG GT stand out

Visually, the first thing that strikes you is the endless hood, in the same way as the AMG GTs or the 12 Cilindris. At 4.82 m long, 2 m wide and only 1.20 m high, the GR GT remains a strict two-seater. In terms of weight, the technical data sheet is less dreamy. Where its competitors weigh around 1,500 kg, the GR GT climbs to 1,750 kg, a significant overweight despite its carbon-reinforced aluminum chassis. The all-new V8 takes place at the front while the eight-speed automatic transmission, combined with an electric motor, is installed at the rear. The result is a weight distribution of 45% at the front and 55% at the rear.

Disappearance of the Toyota logo - GR GT will be the only indications

Technical data will undoubtedly change by the time of launch in 2027, but some certainties are emerging. The GR GT will be rear-wheel drive, will develop at least 650 hp and 850 Nm thanks to its twin-turbo V8, and the hybridization associated with the gearbox does not seem to be rechargeable or designed to alleviate the burden. As for the price, which is still unknown, we can imagine something around €200,000, or rather €300,000 once the French penalty is applied. Enough to place this Toyota in the rank of a real supercar, capable of competing with Ferrari or Porsche without shaking. In the meantime, it is its GT3 variant that is already unleashing passions.

Toyota GR GT3 - The WEC in the crosshairs

Because yes, Toyota is clearly aiming to compete with this new base. If she is not yet involved in WEC 2026, it is a safe bet that she will appear on the circuits quickly. And that's not all. We will have to wait a bit longer to discover the revival of another legend, derived from the GR GT chassis: the future LFA, this time 100% electric. To be continued...
