A low-profile yet essential Italian engineer, Nicola Materazzi was born in 1939 near Naples. After a stint at Lancia, where he worked on the Stratos, he joined Ferrari and distinguished himself as the technical mastermind behind the legendary 288 GTO and later the F40, of which he is considered the father.

A visionary and a pragmatist, he always knew how to combine raw performance with mechanical efficiency. He later brought his expertise to Bugatti for the development of the EB110. Until his passing in 2022, he remained a craftsman of the extreme, dedicated to pure performance in its most noble and radical form.
