In its irresistible race for performance and records, Porsche is often at the forefront. Once again, the German manufacturer is crushing the competition with its new version, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. The firm is unveiling its most powerful production model ever designed, electric and thermal included.

The battle between Porsche and Tesla to win the lap record on the Nordschleife with an electric 4-door model is raging. While Porsche clocked a time of 7.33.350 with the Taycan Turbo S equipped with the Performance Pack, the American firm responded immediately with its Tesla S Plaid. The 20-kilometer loop is covered in 7.25.231, more than 8 seconds ahead of the Taycan. An affront commensurate with Porsche, and they should not be provoked twice!

At the beginning of 2024, Porsche formalized the release of its most powerful production model in its history. Barely announced, the Taycan Turbo GT already set the lap record for an electric car on the Laguna Seca circuit. Inspecting the technical characteristics, one almost wonders if so much power is actually useful. It develops 789 horsepower for daily use, 952 horsepower in “Attack” mode for a limited time and no less than 1108 horsepower in “Launch Control” mode for 2 seconds. Staggering figures as well as performances. The 0 to 100 km/h is swallowed in 2.3 seconds (2.2s with the Weissach pack) and the 0 to 200 km/h in 6.6 seconds (6.4s with the Weissach pack).

Since performance goes hand in hand with lightness, Porsche is quick to make massive use of carbon fiber in order to reduce weight. Carbon fiber covers the pillars, mirrors, and side skirts, while the Weissach package removes the rear seat in favor of a carbon cargo compartment. The bucket seats are obviously made of carbon, and the weight gain is even achieved on the carbon-ceramic brakes. There is also a retractable rear spoiler or an impressive carbon spoiler to optimize aerodynamics.

That being said, what about its dynamic behavior? The power is certainly impressive, but a circuit is not a highway, especially when the car has 2.2 tons on the scale... However, the surprise is significant: the Taycan Turbo GT handles perfectly thanks to its sharp steering, very aggressive brakes and adaptive air suspension. The Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and Active Ride systems optimize steering and sportiness, offering impressive cornering speeds. This nice cocktail of technology and power allows the Taycan Turbo GT, equipped with the Weissach Pack, to complete the Nordschleife loop in 7.07.55, more than 18 seconds ahead of the Tesla Model S Plaid. Objective achieved for Porsche, while waiting for the next American response.
