Presented in 2011, the Ferrari 458 Spider transposes the architecture of the 458 Italia into an open configuration, with a retractable aluminum hardtop. This mechanism, which is more compact than a traditional soft top, makes it possible to maintain the overall silhouette while completely freeing up the rear when the roof disappears into its housing. The engine remains identical to that of the coupe: the 4.5-liter naturally aspirated F136 V8, capable of climbing to 9,000 rpm, combined with the Getrag dual-clutch gearbox. The central rear layout imposes a particular design of the engine bay, slightly modified compared to Italy to make way for the roof system.

The Bianco Avus model with Rosso interior uses an iconic configuration from the Ferrari catalog, often chosen to highlight the contrast between sculpted lines and a warmer interior. The Spider maintains the model's key innovations, including the redesigned intake, direct injection, and aids from the Formula 1 experience, such as the F1-Trac and the E-Diff. Controlled damping, co-developed with BWI, accompanies this particularly responsive chassis.

The 458 Spider is now one of the last open-air V8 models from Maranello, a tipping point just before the arrival of the turbo in the line of Ferrari V8s.
