In order to compete with BMW, Mercedes and Porsche at the same time, Ferdinand Piëch does not skimp on resources. At the head of the Volkswagen group since 1993, he acquired Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti, which were then in a bad position, and produced new models. The creation of a certain Gallardo V10 gave him the idea of an Audi supercar. Thus, in 2003, he presented the Le Mans Quattro Concept, called R8 in 2006. Powered by a V8 in a central rear position, the R8 took over the V10 from the Gallardo in 2008 and took everything in its path, with more than 18 years of longevity.
